In today’s online world, there are a growing number of channels to send your message. You can post on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and various other social sites to get your message out to your growing number of friends and followers. While the definition of success varies depending on what you’re trying to achieve, here are a few basic tips for how to use NewsBox to get your message out to an audience of people who want to hear from you.
First; nobody likes a spammer. We’ve built certain tools into NewsBox to allow you to connect with people through email. You can invite people you already know through our invitation tool. Please do not invite people you don’t know as this could be considered spam. By doing so, you risk the recipient blocking other requests from NewsBox users. If you don’t know the person and they bring that to our attention, we may need to close your account.
You can get visibility for your releases by creating a compelling release that isn’t advertising spam. If you want to advertising your sexy video chat room, want to sell your services or feel the need to post blatant advertisements, you run the risk of being suspended or cancelled by NewsBox management. Any outgoing emails that are blatant advertisements could be equally actionable.
If you really want to get positive feedback and attention from users, craft a news release that is direct and conveys your message within the first few sentences. Second; connect to your existing social networks. Your social networks are an increasingly valuable channel for getting additional visibility for your releases. While you may not feel your specific release needs to go out over Facebook, it may be right for Twitter. And, NewsBox is a great place to host your news/press release and post it to those networks. If you don’t have existing social networks, you may want to create them. You can do that by going to Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter and creating accounts for you or your company and adding them to NewsBox. When you post content through NewsBox, it will post to your networks and it’s likely you’ll get additional “like” or followers. And, you can get your news in front of a growing number of social network users.
If you want to stick to just using NewsBox, don’t worry, you can be successful without social networks. We incorporate targeted news feeds in over 150 Industries, over 150 topics and over 120 countries and other geographic area(s). Other users can subscribe to your news feed through RSS; which stands for really simple syndication; and, gives them the ability to follow your news through Outlook Express or other news readers. Members can subscribe to your news feed within NewsBox as well and while not really like a social network, your press releases will get into their message box.
With every release you send, you can attract more subscribers. If a viewer finds your release through Google News, for example, they can sign up to receive your newsletter. Every time you submit a news release in the future, they’ll get a newsletter from you and you can manage those users through your NewsBox account.
Journalists can also subscribe to you through NewsBox and message you back and forth. You want to ensure you only contact journalists in your connections when you have something relevant to say. We’ve all heard the cry wolf story. If you don’t have something real or important or, as I like to say, tangible, then the journalist is less likely to pay attention next time.
Third; organize your contacts. NewsBox has a unique groups feature which gives you the ability to create groups to manage your contacts. This should be used similar to a newsletter option and is best when you group your contacts by type. So, if you have employees, friends, journalists, co-workers, partners, etc. But, you can group your contacts any way you want. You should note that sending your news release to ALL of your journalist contacts is not advised though – as mentioned in the second tip.
With NewsBox, you do have the option of sending to individual contacts. So, you can select from a contact list and, in the event you went to send an exclusive to a journalist, you can do that. You’d be hard pressed to find a journalist who doesn’t want to receive relevant exclusive news they feel gives them something special. You should also look at each news release as a relationship building tool.
Fourth; Use the additional multimedia options we provide. Upload photos and embed videos to help tell your story. Releases with photos are more than twice as likely to be viewed on NewsBox and help get attention for your releases on other social networks. You can upload a file similar to how we’ve added a news release guide to this blog posting. Add links to your website as well so users are encouraged to visit your site for more information.
Fifth; measure your results. Creating what you think are great press releases may not provide the results you desire. By measuring the results, you can determine how your releases performed. In some cases, you may want to send out different versions of the same release if you feel you can approach the news from a significantly different angle.
